As of October 17th, the Leominster Location will be Closed Permanently - FAQs

Q. When is the location closing?
A. The location will close at 12 pm on Friday, October 17, 2025.
Q. Why is this location closing?
A. We’re making this change as part of a long-term strategy to ensure GFA remains strong and sustainable for all members. The Leominster location has been underutilized. As a not-for-profit cooperative, we are stewards of our members’ money – focused on investing in the services, technologies, and locations that deliver the greatest impact.
Today, the vast majority of transactions take place through online and mobile banking, offering members the convenience to manage accounts, transfer funds, deposit checks, and pay bills – anytime, anywhere. This shift in behavior allows us to reinvest in areas where members are actively engaging, while still maintaining access to in-person banking through our nearby branches and the CO-OP Shared Branching Network.
By making this adjustment, we’re aligning our resources with how members choose to bank while continuing to provide you with flexibility, access, and trusted service.
Q. How can I access my accounts after the location closes?

Q. Is my money safe?
A. Yes. Your accounts remain safe, secure, and insured by the NCUA – as always.
Q. Will the location closing result in layoffs at GFA?
A. No. Closing the Leominster location will not result in any employee layoffs. Our employees are the heart of GFA, and we remain committed to supporting them as they continue serving our members.
Q. Is this a merger or acquisition?
A. No. GFA Federal Credit Union remains fully owned by our members and independent.
Q. Does the location closing mean GFA is in financial trouble?
A. Absolutely not. GFA is financially strong, stable, and well-capitalized. As a not-for-profit financial cooperative, we are guided by our responsibility to use members’ resources wisely. This decision is part of our long-term strategy to align resources with the way members choose to bank today – through digital channels, CO-OP Shared Branching, and the GFA locations most frequently used. By making this strategic decision, we are able to reinvest in areas that deliver the most value for our members, ensuring GFA remains strong, sustainable, and member-focused for years to come.
