Controller

GFA is looking for a proven leader to join the Accounting team.

Operating within an established set of policies and procedures, the AVP/Controller is responsible for the overall management of GFA's accounting and financial operations including but not limited to; budget development, variance analysis, timely and accurate closing of GLs and preparation of financial reports. The right individual will ensure the integrity of accounting procedures, monitor adherence to regulatory compliance, and makes recommendations of changes to accounting policies and procedures to ensure effective financial controls.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Participates in recruitment efforts, including conducting interviews. Performs all aspects of performance management including coaching and developing staff within current positions and in accordance to career potential. Builds and maintains a team atmosphere with open lines of communication. Conducts themself in a leadership and coaching manner developing a collaborative approach within the department.
  • Oversees all areas of the Accounting Department to ensure work is processed in a timely manner and within defined parameters.
  • Ensures that discrepancies, exceptions, and aging items are properly handled, investigated, and communicated to the VP/Finance for further action. Ensures that the Credit Union maintains a balanced situation at all times.
  • Develops staff, adheres to policies, makes sound decisions, informs appropriate persons when exceptions are made, and implements and monitors department controls.
  • Responsible for closing the books at the end of each month for both the Credit Union and any of its subsidiaries, including preparation of reconciliations and adjustments to various general ledger accounts, generation of all required financial reports, and performing month end analysis of accounts and input into ALM model.
  • Ensures proper record keeping and reconciliation of fixed assets, pre-paids, reserves, standard entries Octant loans, participation loans, market index certificates, and ODP charge offs.
  • Maintains accurate records of all investment activity for the Credit Union and its related corporations. Prepares month end investment reports.
  • Prepares quarterly NCUA call report.
  • Performs required downloads, maintains general ledger interface, InfoVision files, aires and digital archives in conjunction with the data center.
  • Reviews payroll for accuracy. Prepares general ledger posting sheet for payroll.
  • Maintains large returned item log and backup withholding log.
  • Administers TT&L, savings bonds, Direct American Express Pass, COCC digital archives and COCC FTP server websites.
  • Prepares Crystal Reports for other individuals and departments as needed.
  • Prepares workpapers for internal and external auditors and regulators.
  • Assists with the preparation, maintenance, and analysis of the annual budget.
  • Functions in a management capacity, demonstrating a commitment to GFA and is a leader in it's continued success.
  • Adheres and complies with Credit Union and regulatory agencies (i.e. NCUA, State, Federal) policies and procedures.
  • Releases EZPay batches, domestic and international wire transfers requests. Provides incoming wire information to the Operations department.
  • Serves as backup to the EVP/CFO during absences.
  • Provides coverage for other Accounting department personnel during absences.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting or 5 years equivalent work related experience.
