Senior Accountant

GFA is seeking the right individual to join our accounting team in a senior level role.

As the Senior Accountant you will play a key role in supporting the financial operations of the credit union. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, preparing financial statements and management and regulatory reporting for the credit union and credit union's subsidiary organizations (CUSOs), and supporting strategic financial planning.

GFA Pay Ranges: Commensurate with experience - $72,000 to $88,000 annualized salary.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
General Accounting

  • Maintain general ledger accounts, post journal entries, and ensure accurate and timely month-end closing tasks.
  • Settle intercompany receivables and payables monthly.
  • Assist with loan accounting, including interest accruals, charge-offs, recoveries, and write-offs in accordance with credit union policies.
  • Prepare and reconcile balance sheet and income statement accounts, including account reconciliations and account analysis on a periodic basis (i.e., daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually).
  • Assist with special projects, process improvements, and financial analysis as assigned.
  • Support department management in assisting internal auditors, external auditors, and regulators as requested.
  • Collaborate with department management to drive workflow improvements and improved data integrity.

Financial and Regulatory Reporting

  • Create and prepare elimination and consolidation entries for the credit union and CUSOs.
  • Prepare financial statements and management and regulatory reporting for the credit union, CUSOs, and consolidated entity.
  • Support the Controller with the preparation of regulatory reporting requirements (i.e., Call Report, FR2900, MA DOR, etc.).
  • Participate in the preparation of strategic plan updates and the annual operating budget.
  • Assist with financial statement and actual-to-budget variance analysis.

Knowledge and Skills:
Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Financial Institution experience (Credit Union or Banking)
  • Five or more years of accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of USGAAP
  • Familiarity with NCUA regulations and Call Report requirements
  • Proficiency with accounting software (i.e., general ledger package, financial reporting SAAS)
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, v-lookups, advanced formulas)
  • Experience with credit union core systems and loan accounting software is a plus
  • Working knowledge of data security, privacy, and financial controls
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines

Desired

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), CPA eligible or CPA candidate preferred
  • Other relevant certification a plus
