Mortgage Loan Originator

GFA is seeking a motivated and member-focused Mortgage Loan Originator to guide borrowers through the home financing process from application to closing.

As a Mortgage Loan Originator, the right individual will be responsible for the solicitation of new mortgage business throughout GFA’s entire field of membership.

Salary Range: Commission Based Compensation
Department: Lending
FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports To: EVP/Chief Revenue and Lending Officer

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Sales and Networking 80%

  • Originate real estate loans (first mortgage and equities) using a variety of tools and networking opportunities.
  • Develop a strong realtor network.
  • Promote and cross-sell credit union services to deepen member relationships.
  • Initiates the mortgage loan process through interviewing applicants, counseling and guiding them through the real estate lending process.
  • Submit applications to underwriting and communicate decisions (approvals, denials, or counteroffers) to applicants.

Service 20%

  • Work closely with lending support team to ensure quality service and control.
  • Manage online application process, ensuring leads are acted on timely, loans are closed timely and quality is exceptional.
  • Provide the appropriate level of oversight: manage the pipeline to ensure that loans are closed and that leads and pre-qualifications are turned into sales.
  • Ensure all applications are complete, accurate, and properly documented.
  • Analyze credit reports and assess applicant qualifications within established lending guidelines.
  • Prepare required disclosures, ensuring timely and accurate delivery through the member’s chosen channel.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Model and promote the behaviors of the Credit Union’s core values, actively work to enhance the member and employee experience throughout the Credit Union.
  • Participate in the Credit Union’s Community/Civic Engagement Program which requires participation in one community event each calendar year.
  • Act as a role model for staff by completing tasks in a timely and accurate manner. Demonstrate a commitment to learning by cross training on other functions as required.
  • Participate, complete and attend mandatory training and/or online assignment for regulatory compliance.
  • Adheres to and complies with Credit Union and regulatory agencies (i.e., NCUA, State, Federal) policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge and Skills:

  • 3+ years of real estate sales/origination experience
  • Must become registered as a GFA Federal Credit Union Mortgage Loan Originator with the National Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS)
  • Strong knowledge of regulations/compliance in residential lending
  • Successful candidates are driven by a commission-based compensation structure
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as math skills
  • Organization, interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to multi-task, maintaining a high degree of detail and accuracy
  • Microsoft Office Suite
