Tech Talk with Jeff - Blocking Unwanted Calls and Text Messages

We’ve all received spam or scam calls or text messages at one time or another. Sometimes you can even receive multiple in one day! There is something you can do that may help. If you receive a phone call or a text message from a particular number you don’t want to contact you again, you can block them. Only do this to numbers you definitely don’t want to hear from again. Such as a spam or scam message. 

Blocking Phone Calls

iPhone

1. Open your Phone app
2. Find the number you want to block in your Recents list
3. Tap the circled i (information) button on the right side of it
4. Look for the “Block this Caller” option at the bottom and tap it
5. Tap “Block Contact”

Android (method may vary depending on phone)

1. Open your Phone app
2. Tap the number you want to block
3. Tap the circled i (information) button
4. Look for the “Block” option and tap it
5. Tap “Block”

Blocking Text Messages

iPhone

1. Open your Messages app
2. Find the text message you want to block
3. Slide the message to the left
4. Tap the Bell with a line through it icon to turn off notification from this sender
5. Slide the message to the left again and select the trash can icon to delete the message

 Android (method may vary depending on phone)

1. Open your Messages app
2. Tap the text message you want to block
3. When the message is open tap the 3 dots to open the menu options
4. Look for the “Block Number” option and tap it
5. Tap “Block”

By taking these steps you can stop receiving calls or text messages from numbers you do not know and who you know could cause an issue for you. Helping to limit the number or spam or scam calls and text messages that you receive. Just remember to be careful when doing so. You want to make sure you don’t block numbers that you actually want to hear from.
