GFA Awards Student Scholarships to 2022 Graduates

GFA is proud to annually recognize area high school seniors for their scholastic achievements, demonstrated strong qualities of character, good citizenship, and extracurricular engagement.

The David Jacques Memorial Scholarship celebrates the memory of long-time GFA supporter and former Board of Director member, David Jacques. This year’s scholarship was presented to Alex Lucier, a Gardner High School student who graduated at the top of his class. Alex is a hard worker who enjoys challenging himself in and outside of the classroom and has been involved in local and national student government programs, extracurricular activities, and community service from a young age. His experiences have helped him learn the importance of a strong team, and the incredible results that can come from a passionate community. Alex will attend Worcester State University in the fall where he plans to study Marketing and Communications.

Heather Gonyea, a Conant High School graduate, is this year’s recipient of the GFA Student Visionary Award. Heather is a bright student with a love of math who graduated at the top of her class. She cares for her classmate’s wellbeing and is very active in her community, having dedicated over 60 hours of community service during her high school career and worked with the school to create the Conant High school gymnastics team. She plans to attend Western New England university where she will study Actuarial Science.

“We could not have picked two, more deserving students as this year’s GFA scholarships recipients. Their academic achievements, leadership qualities and community involvement are truly inspirational. I am positive they will excel in all future endeavors.” Said Joshua I. Brier, President and Chief Executive Officer of GFA Federal Credit Union.
