GFA Recognizes the Retirement of Tina M. Sbrega from its Board of Directors After Decades of Visionary Governance

GFA Federal Credit Union announces the retirement of Tina M. Sbrega from its Board of Directors, closing an extraordinary chapter of service, vision, and leadership that has profoundly shaped the institution and its mission.

Tina’s role on the GFA Board of Directors has been marked by strength, innovation, and a relentless dedication to the values of cooperative governance. As a long-standing board member and volunteer leader, she has brought invaluable depth, perspective, and integrity to every strategic decision. Her institutional knowledge, paired with her forward-thinking approach, helped guide GFA through periods of growth, industry disruption, and opportunity with unwavering focus on members' needs.

Volunteer boards are the cornerstone of credit union leadership—providing fiduciary oversight, mission alignment, and long-term strategic guidance. Tina’s presence on the board elevated that responsibility to new heights. Her decades of experience in the financial sector, coupled with her passion for community and collaboration, allowed her to mentor, challenge, and inspire her fellow board members and leadership teams alike.

“Tina’s impact on our board and our institution cannot be overstated,” said Douglas Delay, Chairman and Chief Governance Officer of the Board of Directors. “Her leadership style is a rare blend of vision, humility, and conviction. She brings clarity to complexity and always grounds her decisions in what’s best for the members and the community. Tina has been a guiding light for this board, and personally, it has been a privilege to serve alongside her for so many years.”

Throughout her board tenure, Tina helped lead major strategic initiatives—strengthening governance practices, advancing GFA’s community investment, and ensuring the credit union stayed true to its founding purpose while innovating for the future. Her voice consistently championed member-focused solutions, responsible growth, and sustainable service models.

Reflecting on her board service, Sbrega shared: “I am grateful to the Board, the GFA team, and our community for their trust and support throughout serving as a Board member and my career. GFA is, and always will be, close to my heart. It’s a powerful thing to work alongside individuals who give their time and expertise out of a deep sense of purpose. Credit unions are rooted in people helping people—and that spirit has driven every decision we’ve made as a board. I’m proud of the work we’ve done and grateful for the opportunity to serve.”

Tina’s retirement is not only a moment to honor a remarkable leader, but a reminder of the critical role that volunteer board members play in the strength and future of the credit union movement. Her legacy will endure in GFA’s continued commitment to excellence, community, and member-first values.
